Musk Says, X is moving to subscription payments and has 550 million users

Elon Musk discussed his plans on Twitter, now called X, in a live discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Musk said, “The social network is moving to get a small monthly fee to use the X system to fight big robot armies.”

Musk did not say how much the new plan would cost users of the social network, or what other features would or would not be part of the lowest-tier payment.

During the live stream, Musk also revealed some new metrics about X, saying it now has 550 million monthly users generating 100-200 million messages per day.

Musk did not disclose how many of the company’s monthly users are genuine versus bots. He also did not make an apples-to-apples comparison with Twitter’s previously used metrics. In May 2022, before Musk took over, Twitter reported that its “average monetizable daily active usage” was 229 million.

In the conversation with Netanyahu, they wanted to focus on the theoretical risks of artificial intelligence technology and regarding the regulation of artificial intelligence. However, Musk also used it to refute the notion that his social network tolerates hate speech and Antisemitism.

The meeting followed widespread criticism of Musk from civil rights groups for promoting bigotry on his social network, including Antisemitic accounts, content, and conspiracies.
